Life is a journey and it’s normal to experience ups and downs along the way. However, there are certain signs that indicate it’s time to make a change and take control of your life. Whether it’s a small adjustment or a major overhaul, recognizing these signs and taking action can lead to a happier, more fulfilling life.

1. Feeling Stuck

Yep, I know that feeling of being stuck…It’s right after a big storm when all 9 of my horses have been locked in their stall for a full day and as soon as I open those stall doors to let the horses out to graze  I know I will be stuck digging out the muck for the next 3 hours.

However, my feeling of being stuck dissipates as soon as my job is done. But when you have that feeling of being stuck and are unable to pinpoint where that feeling is coming from, well its time for you to change things up by taking action.

2. Constant feelings of boredom or dissatisfaction.

The constant feeling of boredom and dissatisfaction is like being stuck in a never-ending loop of monotony. It’s like every day feels the same, and nothing brings excitement or joy.

It’s a feeling of being unfulfilled, like something is missing, and no matter what you try to do, you can’t shake it off. It’s like you’re just going through the motions, and nothing seems to bring a sense of purpose or satisfaction.

The constant demands of being a parent/grandparent can take precedence over your wants and need leaving you to lose sight of what matters in your life. It can make you feel like you are not living the life you want, and that you are stuck in a rut with no way out. It can be very frustrating and can make you feel unproductive and unmotivated.

3. A lack of motivation or inspiration in your daily activities.

A lack of motivation or inspiration in your daily life is an everyday feeling like even the smallest action is a struggle. You can’t seem to find the energy or drive to tackle your tasks or pursue your goals. You feel like you’re just going through the motions, without any real passion or enthusiasm .

You may find yourself struggling to focus, to find the energy to even start, or to even care about the things you used to enjoy. This can make you feel drained, unproductive, and like you are stuck in a routine with no way to break out. It can be a real challenge to overcome this lack of motivation and inspiration, but it’s important to remember that it’s not a permanent state, and there are ways to rekindle your motivation and inspiration.

4. Difficulty in maintaining relationships

You may not realize it yourself but I can guarantee your family members and friends have noticed it. I know this because I have come across this issue in my social circle more often than I would have liked; A friend just stopped visiting, calling, or texting and when are in contact they are short and state they just feel don’t feel like being social.

Failing to maintain personal and social relationships can feel isolated and lonely. It can also lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. It can be difficult to form new relationships or to repair damaged ones. It can also lead to a lack of support and understanding from others. In some cases, it can even affect a person’s mental and emotional well-being.

It then becomes easier and easier to lose connection while also becoming harder to reconnect personally and socially. Creating, maintaining, and cultivating personal and social relationships help one feel grounded in life and also helps those in your social circle feel a close connection we all need.

5. A persistent feeling of unhappiness

Not quite depression but just a feeling of being unhappy with just about everything in life. Plus those things that would get you up and going in your life have become an annoyance.

I recently felt this way over the Christmas holiday. being a creative person, decorating my home for the holidays gave me purpose and made me feel energized. But in the last couple of years, I have become less and less excited over the holiday and felt truly unhappy about the upcoming festivities.

I noticed this in myself and began my investigation of what I was truly feeling. Well that feeling was coming from the realization that my family was growing up and spending less time at my home for the holiday.

So what did I do? I changed my mindset and made plans to travel around the holiday instead of worrying about if the family would visit. The funny thing is this invigorated the family also! They now want to come along with their family to create a new holiday tradition of traveling to see holiday sites.

6. A sense that you are not living up to your full potential or personal goals.

Not living up to one’s full potential or personal goals can feel frustrating and disheartening. It can lead to feelings of disappointment and failure. It can also cause a person to doubt their abilities and worth. It can lead to a lack of motivation and a sense that one is not making progress.

It can also cause a person to feel like they are not living the life they want to live and not achieving the things they want to achieve. This can also lead to depression, anxiety, and stress. It’s important to remember that it’s okay to make mistakes and not reach goals, we can always work on setting new goals and working towards them.

7. Feeling like you are not in control of your own life.

Not feeling in control of one’s life can be a very stressful and overwhelming experience. It can lead to feelings of helplessness and a lack of agency. It can make a person feel like they are not making progress or that they are being held back by external forces.

It can also lead to a lack of motivation and a sense that one is not making progress. To overcome this feeling, it can be helpful to take small steps toward regaining control.

Setting small, achievable goals and working towards them can help to build a sense of accomplishment and motivation. It can also be helpful to focus on things that are within one’s control, such as attitude and mindset, instead of things that are out of one’s control.

Seeking professional help or therapy can also be a good option for those who are having a hard time coping with the feeling of not being in control of their life. Additionally, learning self-care practices and mindfulness can help to improve one’s overall mental and emotional well-being.

how to take step towards changing things up in life

Taking steps towards changing things in life can be a challenging but rewarding process. The first step is to identify what specifically a person wants to change. This can be done by setting specific and measurable goals. Then, it’s important to make a plan of action to achieve those goals. This may involve researching different options, seeking advice from others, or experimenting with new approaches.

It’s also important to be realistic about what can be achieved and what may be out of reach. It’s important to understand that change takes time and requires effort, patience, and resilience. Additionally, it’s important to be open to trying new things and to be willing to adapt the plan as needed.

Another important step is to create a support system, whether it’s friends, family, or a therapist. They can provide encouragement, advice, and accountability. It’s also important to practice self-care and to take care of your physical and mental health while working towards your goals.

It’s also worth noting that change is not always easy and it can be a process that requires time and effort, but with a clear goal, a plan, and a support system, it can be done.
